Robert Ernest Stephens and Beatrice Lawson Stephens have helped make it possible for genealogists to work on their family trees without trapsing through the woods. Although on a beautiful day it's not too hard of work. If any errors are noted please email me and I will correct them. I look forward to reading Mr. Stephens history of McCreary County when it is finished. The book is entitled, "A Lost Heritage for a Changing People." I also would like to thank him again for the permission to copy their work. We think of you in silence. No eye can see us weep. But many a silent tear is shed. When others are asleep. You are not forgotten dear mother. Nor shall you ever be. For as long as life and memory lasts. We'll always remember. In my father's house are many mansions. SUMMARY The King Cemetery is about .5 mile from the KY-TN border. As you go to it you'll see evidence of coal mining. The area has been extensively strip-mined. The early burials were Kings and Hills. The first burial was Delilah King on 12 March 1895. She is also the person with the earliest birth date, 4 January 1826. The last burial was William C. Hill, 23 July 1984. So you see it's been Hills and Kings from the beginning to the present time. There have been 14 Hills and 30 Kings buried here. There are 34 graves unidentified, and there have been burials each decade since 1890. The peak years for burials were 1910-1919, when 13 people were interred.
