Henry Cox Retired Coal Miner The Rev. Henry Cox, 76, of the Mountain View community, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. Funeral services were 1 pm Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with the Revs. Johnny Wayne Inman, Rick Cox and Adam Cox officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery. Born July 28, 1923, in Stearns, Ky., he was a son of the late John and Vada Childers Cox. He was a retired coal miner, working for 30 years at Stearns Coal and Lumber Company; joined United Baptist Church at White Oak Junction in October 1944 and later moved to help organize the Cherokee United Baptist Church on Dec. 17, 1949. He was ordained a Baptist minister at Cherokee United Baptist Church on March 18, 1950, and pastored Mountain View United Baptist Church, Oak Grove United Baptist Church, Second United Baptist Church in Whitley City, White Oak Junction United Baptist Church and Cherokee United Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Fern New Cox, whom he married Dec. 31, 1943; a son, Roger Lee Cox; a daughter Brenda Lou Coffey; two brothers, Andy Cox and John Cox, Jr.; eight sisters, Martha Kidd, Mary Watson, Gracie, Stella, Della, Mara, Lara and Goldi Cox; and a grand-daughter, Kandi Denise West. Surviviors include a son, the Rev. John Ricky Cox, Pioneer, TN.; five daughters, Alice Sue Bicknell, Lafayette, IN, Carolyn Ann Freeman, Delphi, IN, Joyce Dean Phillips, Muncie, IN, Linda Jean Inman, Stearns, and Billie Jo Woods, New Braunfels, TX; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Lee Cox, Dalton, GA. Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
