A.J. was born December 19, 1869 and departed this life July 23, 1964 being 94 years, 7 months and 4 days of age. He joined the New Salem Church in February, 1887 and ordained a minister in 1900. He preached the Gospel over 66 years. In 1898, he was married to Sallie Pennington and to this union was born 7 children, 2 preceding him in death. The surviving children are Eldon, Clegie, R.O., Marie and Celah. He served as Clerk of New Salem Church for a number of years, was pastor of a number of churches, Honorary pastor of Paint Rock Baptist Church and honorary pastor of White Rock Baptist Church of which he was a charter member, and led many souls to Christ. As our beloved brother Paul said "His building is eternal in the Heavens, for our loss is his eternal gain in Glory."
