He was a son of the late Calvin and Rebecca Phiffer Hughett. Brother Hughett professed a hope in Christ February 3, 1896 and was baptized into the New Salem Church February 23, 1896, he remained a faithful member until he moved his letter to the Baptist Church at Paint Rock. On April 3, 1927 Brother Hughett was ordained to preach the gospel. The following preachers helped in the ordination: Rev. R. C. Cecil, Rev. W. A. Cross, Rev. A. J. Phillips and Rev. Emmett Hughett, his son. On January 31, 1902, he was married to Delphia Jeffers, and to this union was born 6 children-3 boys and 3 girls: Emmit who preceded him death, Emory Hughett of Pioneer, Mrs. Floyd Posey, deceased, Mrs. Frank Phillips of Pioneer, Joe E. Hughett of Detroit, Michigan and Mrs. Dilmon Byrd of Pioneer. Delphia died July 14, 1923. Brother Hughett later married Loma Crabtree in January 1937. To this union was born 6 children-3 boys and 3 girls: Rebecca, Mrs. Jessie Newport, Lester and Chester, Beverly Kay and Marvin all of Huntsville, Tennessee. He was a retired school teacher, having taught 32 years in Scott County, and Attorney for 13 years, a notary public for 30 years, and county surveyor since 1902. Besides his wife and children, he leaves a brother, John Hughett of Princeton, Ky., and a sister, Mrs. E. Jeffers of Helenwood, 25 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Brother Hughett lived a devoted Christian life. He pastored churches for 28 years-serving as many as three churches at once. He rode over the hills and through the valleys to preach the gospel without charge. His was a busy life, devoted mostly to serving others.
