Tuesday, June 2, 1970, McCreary County Record:
Lou Verna Jones, 86, of Hill Top, Kentucky died Sunday, May 24 at her home 
after an illness of two years./  The deceased was born May 7, 1896 in Wayne 
County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late William Whitehead and Sarah Tucker 
Whitehead. She was married to Harrison Jones, who preceded her in death. Mrs. 
Jones who was a housewife and came here 16 years ago from Wayne County. She 
was a member of Lower Turkey Creek Baptist Church./  Survivors are her six 
children, Mrs. Zella Moore, Hamilton, Ohio; Mrs. Viola Issacs, Cincinnati, 
Ohio, Mrs Irene Tucker, Columbus, Ohio, Miss Ruth Jones, Hill Top, Kentucky, 
Mr. Fred Jones, Hill Top and Mr. Thomas Jones, Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother 
John C. Whitehead, Oneida, Tennessee; 27 grandchildren and 2 great
grandchildren./  Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Wolf Ridge 
Baptist Church with Rev. Chester Stephens and Rev. Herbert (Bud) Perry 
officiating. Burial was in Sammy New Cemetery with Hickman Funeral Home in 
charge./  Serving as pall bearers were George Whitehead, Ardell Whitehead, 
Glenn Whitehead, Noble Whitehead, Lonnie Jones and Clyde Jones.
