Tuesday, December 1, 1981, McCreary County Record:
Funeral services for the Rev. Herbert (Bud) Murphy, 61, Stearns, were held at 
3 p.m. Monday at McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in 
Angel Cemetery with the Rev. Harrison Salyers officiating. He died at Scott 
County Hospital at Oneida Friday, Nov. 27./  Born at Whitley City Nov. 22, 
1920, the late William and Lora J. King Murphy, he had been employed on a 
railroad and retired to McCreary County in 1972. He was a member of Antioch 
Baptist Church and was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and 
one grandchild./  He is survived by his widow, Stella Murphy, Stearns; nine 
children, Steve D., Lora J., and Bill Murphy of Indianapolis, Ind., David 
Murphy, Gloria Brown and Linda Brown of Stearns, Michael Murphy, Somerset, 
Barbara Ross, Smithtown and AM Herbert Lester Murphy Jr., Alamogordo, N.M. and 
13 grandchildren./  Also four brothers, Leo Murphy and Elbert Stephens of Pine 
Knot and Joe Cooper and Esau Owens, addresses unknown; three sisters, Bessie 
Menchhofer, Indianapolis, Ind., Lucinda Phillips, Stearns and Marie Bryant, 
Whitley City.
