MUNCIE - Dorothy M. Swearingen, 72, Muncie, died Monday morning at her
residence.

She was born in McCreary County, Ky., the daughter of Thelma Goins Cox and
Jesse Cox. Dorothy grew up in Kentucky and lived in the Muncie area since
moving here in the late 1940s. She worked at Ball Brothers for many years
and also operated a restaurant in Whitesville, Ky., for several years. She 
had two loving pets, Lynn Baby and Teddy.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Caldwell (husband: Marion), Muncie;
Brenda Worthington (husband: William), Owensboro, Ky.; Bernice Igleheart
(husband: William Russell), Whitesville, Ky.; a son, Roy Lee Lashley,
Muncie; a brother, Jesse Cox, Muncie; a sister, Arlene Cox, Muncie; a 
sister-in-law, Bertha Cox, Muncie; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 
a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Shelby Glen Lashley.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel with
Pastor Kenneth Boles officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove
Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary after 12:30 p.m. Friday.
