Etherton Date: 7 July 1999 *********************************************************************** In 1994 and 1996 I visited the small Etherton Cemetery in Wolf Creek, Ky. where some of my relatives are buried. Here is the information from the trip, info on the people, and the inscriptions. Hopefully someone can use this information. ******* THE "ETHERTON CEMETERY" The "Etherton cemetery" is located on a hill top in the center of a wooded area on the Sansbury farm at 1115 Knob Road. The small cemetery has a fence around it and a small gate with a sign over the gate - "Etherton Cemetery". On the back of the sign is "In memory of Geraldine Grant" (do not know who this is). There are 16 graves in the plot (engraved as follows): Benj. Eatherton March 26, 1811-March 14, 1883 William Etherton - July 15, 1848 Amelia Etherton - July 5, 1844-Feb.7, 1913 (Benjamin's son and his wife) (The stone is relatively new. Probably replaced the old stone which might have been damaged. This may be why the date of death is missing for William Etherton.) Frank Etherton - Father Maude Etherton - Mother 1868-1955 1883-1952 (Frank's 3rd wife, probably referred to as "mother" because she raised Frank's children) (NOTE: Frank's full name was Benjamin Franklin Etherton (B.F or Frank on markers) Sallie Etherton (Frank's 2nd wife and Ethel Etherton 1872-1907 their infant daughter) 1899-1906 JOE wife of B. F. Etherton (Frank's 1st wife, Josephine) 1869-1893 OBIE G. son of J. L. & B. F. Etherton (Frank and Joe's infant son) 1891-1892 Kate L Troutman Joe Troutman 1883-1938 1880-1946 (Kate Etherton and her husband) Laura H Troutman Alfred T. Troutman Charles R. Troutman 1886-1920 1910-1969 1915-1970 (Laura Etherton and her two sons) Frances E. wife of J.H. Guel. 1854-1884 (This "old marker" was worn & hard to read. As best as we could determine, it was inscribed as above; probably was Benj. Eatherton's married daughter. Next to it was a grave marked only with a large stone). ************** Benjamin Franklin Eatherton came from Virginia to farm in Kentucky. William Etherton was his son and took over the farm. Frank Etherton was one of Williams sons who took over the farm from William. Kate and Laura were daughters of William. This information came from James Arthur Etherton (1898-1995)who was a son of Frank Etherton. I talked with him in 1994 for a couple of hours and it was he who told us how to get to the Etherton Cemetery. His mind was still sharp. By the way, my grandfather was James R. Etherton, Sn. and was also a son of William. He is buried in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville. I am originally from Louisville. James (Jim) R. Etherton, Pensacola, FL. 32506 jre3rd@bellsouth.net
