Written: December 6, 1854 Recorded: January 8, 1855 I Armstead Barnes of the County of Meade State of Kentucky do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form and following, that is to say First, I desire that my wife Elizabeth Barnes to have all my Estate both real and personal after all my liabilities and just debts are paid, to have and to hold and control as long as she remains my widow, as she also is to receive money that may be owing me, and pay debts should there be any, and I also desire that ELizabeth my wife portion all my children equal and I also desire that the property that my children has or may get of my Estate, both real and personal by the hand of Elizabeth my wife, shall belong to them and their heirs and shal not be subject to sale by any other person. I also desire Elizabeth my wife to portion of my children as she can spare, when she has a surplus. I also desire that my wife have the priveledge of selling any of my negroes that she may not be able to control and I desire that at the death of Elizabeth my wife all my children to have an equal portion of my property or estate. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 6th day of December One Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty four. Meade County Vital Records state that Armstead Barnes was born in Nelson County, Kentucky, the son of Elijah and R. Barnes of Nelson County, Kentucky. These same Meade County records also state that Armstead Barne died on December 9, 1854 at the age of 45 and the cause of his death was pnuemonia. [The E. A. Shacklett who witnessed the signing of the Will was likely Elijah Ashcraft Shacklett, an uncle of Armstead Barnes' wife. Elijah A.
