A native of Menifee County, she was the daughter of the late Martin Van Buren and Lettie Craft Bates, the widow of Asa Little, a retired postmaster after 42 years and merchant. Surviving are four daughters, Lettie Daugherty and Anna Lou Combs of Means, Ella Marie Fletcher of Lexington and Patsy Trautner of Versailes; one son J B Amburgey of Means; one brother, Joe Bates of Mt Sterling; one sister, Anna Bailey of Lexington; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 22, at the Old Salem Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Paul Trautner and Elder Harold Fletcher officiating. Herlad and Stewart Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Lovely Cemetery. Active bearers will be Steve Amburgey, Ernest Fletcher, Larry Fletcher, Randy Daugherty, Raymond Daugherty, Walter Daugherty and Patrick Trautner.
