Date: 7 Dec 1832 GALLOWAY, JAMES: Born in Ireland came to the US in 1766 landed at Newcastle on the Delaware River 11 Sep 1766 soon after removed to Chester Co., Pa where he resided at the time of the ARW in 1776..I was cut down by a severe cut of a sword on my head from a British Dragoon which fractured my skull and greatly injured me. I was carried off the ground by my commander and after the battle I was carried in a Baggage Wagon to a Hospital on the Delawre above the mouth of the Schuekill, where I was confined for about 6 1/2 months I returned to my home in Chester Co in the Month of March 1779. Later volunteered at Stoney Point I received several Bayonet wounds in my left hand and arm which are visable and injured me greatly....then at Guilford Court House I engaged in a Battle about March 1781 where I received several Bayonet wounds in my right arms..confined weeks with my wounds. Served a total of 4 years, 2 1/3 months in the Pa Militia. "I loved Liberty my adopted country", I always volunteered, I was never drafted. I lived in Chester Co., Pa until 1791. I removed to Mercer Co., Ky. , where I have lived ever since. My house burned down 19 Feb 1806 all my papers were burned. Spouse: Jane _____ Sp. Age: 83 Sp. Ap. Date: 29 May 1843 Jane _____: She is the widow of James Galloway they were married about 1781 or 2, by publishing (banns) at her Uncle Walter Hoods in Chester Co., Oxford Twsp, Pa. Her husband died 24 Aug 1840 in Mercer Co., Ky...has tried every available way to secure a record of her marriage but can only rely on the ages of her children..her oldest child, Peggy Galloway, if living would be 61; she being born in 1785..she has been dead about 10 years, her next oldest child, if living would be 60 years old, her name was Ann Galloway her next would be William Galloway, if living would be 59, he died when young; her next oldest Daniel Galloway if living would be 58 years old, he died about 2 years since. There were from 18 to 24 months between the rest of her children, except the two last. Chalres Galloway and Nancy Galloway there were 4 years between those two, Nancy being the youngest of twelve children, which the declarent James Galloway, had Nancy Galloway is near 36 years old. Affiant 1: Nancy Galloway Nancy Galloway: That she is the youngest of her brothers sisters..there were 11 then myself. I have often heard my father say the marriage took place at the end of the ARW. Affiant 2: Capt. Jacob Keller Capt. Jacob Keller: 3 Dec 1846..a resident of Mercer Co., Ky..he became aquainted with James Jane Galloway over 40 years ago James Galloway when he first came to Mercer Co, lived near his father where this deponent then lived. The oldest was Peggy the next was Ann, both nearly grown Peggy was older than the deponent. James Galloway had been previously married in Penn from thence moved to NC then to Mercer Co., Ky settled where, Jane now lives. If they had not been married he would have heard of it as Mrs. Galloway had 3 brothers in the neighboor, citizen's of the county and continued as such for some years thereafter. Affiant 3: Samuel Keller Samuel Keller: 3 Dec 1846..He is 59 years old..has known the family for more than 40 years they settled near the home of this deponents father they lived in his neighboor with the exception of 2-3 years. Affiant 4: David Jones David Jones: 30 Dec 1846..James Jane Galloway when they settled in Mercer Co, lived about 1/2 mile from him Affiant 5: Amanda Adams Amanda Adams: Makes Oath on 1 Aug 1848..that she is the daughter of Catherine Adams, who was Catherine Galloway, the 6th child of James Jane Galloway. Other 1: Susanna Jones Susanna Jones: 30 Dec 1846..age 70..became aquainted with James Jane Galloway about 1803 or 4, after they moved to this county and settled near this deponent shortly thereafter their house burnt. Other 2: Walter Hood Walter Hood: Uncle of Jane ( ) Galloway
