Date: 27 Jul 1833 HARLAN, GEORGE: George Harlan, appeared in Mercer Co court ,a resident of Lincoln Co., Ky resideing near the town of Danville in Mercer Co., Ky..he was 71 on 21st of June last..he enlisted at age 16 in Va at the Glades of Sandy Creek..on 7 Jan 1777. He served 3 years and removed to the State of Kentucky in the fall of 1780 resided at Harlan's Station up the Salt River. A certain Thomas Hartley proposed that I give him my discharge he would take it to the office of Col. Richard C. Anderson at or near Louisville and on his return would tell me how I could get my land. Some years afterward, I went to Col. Anderson's office to inquire about this when he examined his books, he informed me that the land lay upon Clear Creek in the State of Ohio and had been entered in the name of Evans, assigner of George Harlan. I went to Chilliocthe and saw Evans but got no satisfaction about my land, nor have I ever been able to obtain it.. mentions several times Jeremiah Briscoe (Major now dec'd) who had lived also at Harlan's station always intimate with his family until the death of Briscoe. The papers filed "Family Record" is that which has more than 20 years been preserved in his family is in the handwriting of Jacob Swope, his uncle who married his mother's sister..this was made at the request of his father many years ago as the old bible was destroyed. He states his father died 24 Jan 1837, Affiant 2: James Harlan James Harlan: Concurs with the statements of his brother Jacob Affiant 3: Elizabeth Briscoe Elizabeth Briscoe: 27 Dec 1838..taken at her home in Mercer Co..that she is the sister of George Harlin is age 75 was present at the marriage of George Harlin Catherine in April 1783 Affiant 4: Phillip Walker Phillip Walker: 27 Jul 1833..of Washington Co., Ky..age 75..he knew George Harlan in the army George Harlan served for 3 years. His wife was Mary Porterfield, daughter of William Porterfield..Porterfield Harlans were colonist of Wm Penn thus Quakers and not many, if any, were soldiers. Was Elijah Harlan of Berkley Co., Va. (now West Va) bon in 1748, a soldier in that war of George Harlan born in Chester Co., Penn in 17-- or William Porterfield born in Donegal Co., Ireland...could he be the same Col.
