He was born in Culpepper Co., Va, "where I resided at the time of the ARW volunteered in the fall of 1780. Continued to live in Culpepper Co., Va. until 1800 when I removed to Ky where I have resided ever since". Spouse: Sally Atkinson Sp. Age: 78 Sp. Ap. Date: 4 Apr 1855 Sally Atkinson: Mrs. Sally Kelly states she is the widow of William Kelly dec'd her husband was a pensioner for 20 to 25 years she married William Kelly in Jul 1831 by Martin Duncan, minister. Her name before her marriage was Sally Atkinson her husband died in Mercer Co 22 Sep 1854. Affiant 1: Caleb Sims Caleb Sims: 9 Aug 1832..Caleb Sims appeared in court stated he was well aquainted with William Kelly was his neighbor in Va..I was too young to be in the army but have often heard him talk of his service remember him serving in the army. Affiant 2: Morgan Wright Morgan Wright: 9 Aug 1832 .. Morgan Wright of Washington Co., Ky .. have known William Kelley from his youth. We served together in 1781 from Culpepper County. He is known to be a man of truth honesty. I was born in Prince George Co., Va. raised in Dinwiddie Co., Va. where I resided at the time of the ARW. (about 1781) I moved to Mercer Co., Ky where I saw service against the Indians.
