------------------------------------------------------------ OBIT: Haldon YATES, 2002, Mercer Co. ------------------------------------------------------------ From the Danville Advocate Messenger, 22 Mar 2002 HARRODSBURG -- Services for Haldon "Shorty" Yates, 79, of Ada Drive will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John David Lane, the Rev. Robert DeFoor and Jim Powell. Burial with military rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. He died Thursday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 17, 1922, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Harve and Mattie Norton Yates. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a retired restaurant owner, having owned and operated White Cottage Restaurant in Harrodsburg for 48 years. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member and officer of Harrodsburg Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Tyler Yates; a stepson, Paul Abercrombie Jr. of Nicholasville; a sister, Wilma Corn of Harrodsburg; and a granddaughter. Pallbearers will be Don Yates, David Hopewell, Billy Mack Gritton, Jack Hankla, Bob Baughman, Tom Baughman, David Baker and John Kolossa. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Bugg, Ricky VanArsdall and former employees of White Cottage Restaurant.
