Civil War Pension Application: Daniel G. Bowles, 1888 - Jackson Co ----------------------------------------------------- Contributed to the USGW Kentucky Archives by: BEVERLY J BOLES "BEVBOLES@prodigy.net" 5 Sep 1998 ----------------------------------------------------- Affidavit Civil War Pension/KING/BOWLES/SIZEMORE/FOX/VERNON General Affidavit of John B.KING on behalf of Daniel G.BOWLES. State of Kentucky, County of Jackson. In claim number 679.614 of Daniel G.BOWLES of Co.C, of the 47th Regt of Ky Vols. personally appeared before the undersigned duly authorized to administer oaths within and for said County, John B.KING aged 51 years, whose P.O. is Peoples, County of Jackson, State of Kentucky, who being duly sworn, state in relation to said claim as follows to wit: I enlisted in the above Co & Regt July 25th, 1863, was sworn in on the 12th day of August 1863, and said BOWLES enlisted in the same Co about the same time. He was a healthy stout hearty looking man when he enlisted and continued so till we was on a march from Boonville, KY. to Parris KY, and my account of our marches shows that we got to Parris on the 31st day of March, 1864 and when we had passed Parris we had to cross a large creek on a railroad bridge and when my Co. was some distance on the bridge one of the cross pieces broke, then the planks broke and four of our Co fell through. Viz: John VERNON, H.SIZEMORE, F.FOX and Daniel G.BOWLES. I think the same piece of something? that hit SIZEMORE in the head hit BOWLES in the back on the hip. I was next to them when they fell. I saw BOWLES get up put his hands on his hips walk a few steps and set down. I inquired where he was hurt he said on the hip. My brother was driving the Co wagon and took them BOWLES & the others in his wagon and hauled them to camp. I did not see the wound. BOWLES continued at times to complain of his hip till our discharge and at times he would limp around and say that his hip had never got well. I have not seen him very often since our discharge, but he has all the time told me that he never got over falling through the bridge. The reason I know he fell through the bridge was I was rite by his left side and saw him fall and saw the piece of wood strike him just after he struck the ground, when he was bent over, and as long as I live and remember anything I will remember when he with the others fell through the bridge. I am not related and have no interest in said claim. John B.King 22nd day of December, 1888. Another affidavit included in the Civil War Pension application of Daniel G.BOWLES was from the brother of John B.KING, Daniel R.KING. On the 24th of December, 1888, Daniel R.KING was 49 years old, and gave his P.O. as Annville?, Jackson County, KY.
