Indian Creek Baptist Church Minutes, Apr-dec Copyright Date 1862 Monroe County KyArchives Church Record Apr - Recvd by letter David and Nancy PATTERSON. Read the Associational Meeting minutes for 1861 which had been held at Pleasant Ridge Church in Barren Co. Decided to attend a council meeting at the Fountain Run Church in Monroe Co on the 2nd Sat in July "for the purpose of holding consultation in reference to the confused situation". David PATTERSON, W M TURNER and W F NEAL to attend from this church. J M NEAL to sit in in consultation. Noted that the church failing to meet at its regular times as the record bookshows until this time was "from the confused condition of a once peaceful and happy land, making it unsafe for citizens to meet in any considerable number, even to worship God." THE CIVIL WAR. NOTES: Some churches in SCKY area noted that they never missed a service due to the war. Some made passing remarks that they were seeking God's help in settling the striff. It appears that Indian Creek church chose not to hold any services and that meetings were being held with representatives from the association churches as to their stand on the war and what to do. Letters of dismission granted to David PATTERSON and wife Nancy. Submitted by: Sandi Gorin http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00002.html#0000404 Additional Comments: Notes: It appears that perhaps David Patterson was a minister already as he was allowed to preach almost immediately as a sub. He joined and then was gone within the year. Whether they were actually moving out of the area or possibly there was disagreement between the church members themselves as to their stand on the Civil War. It was a hard time for churches.
