News April 1, 1948 William ODELL BIRGE, 23, killed in IL.Son of Mr & Mrs Will BIRGE, killed in an automobile accident near Danville IL. a Mr CRUMPTON was riding in the car with BIRGE suffered severe cuts and bruises but is recovering. Surving the deceased are the parents, six brothers: Jesse, Paul, Herbert, Billie and Acie, all of Danville, Ancel of Route 2 Summer Shade; four sisters: Mrs Ona GARMON, Mrs Vada HODGES, Mrs Ivy WADE and Mrs Maude LYNN. Burial was in the White Cemetery in Monroe Co. Mrs Mary Kirk RUSH dies, age 72, at the home of her daughter Mrs Ray PAGE on Wed night, 31 Mar 1948. She was the widow of the late William H RUSH who died in 1919. She made her home on the Tompkinsville-Meshack highway about 2 miles from T'ville for many years. Survivor: Son: Dave Rush of Hartsville TN; 2 daughters: Mrs Lucy GRISSOM of T'ville and Mrs Ray PAGE of the Mt Zion community. Another daughter, Mrs Bettie OVERSTREET, preceeded her mother in death some years ago. 18 surviving grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Brother: W J HEAD of Center Point; Mrs Roxie WHITE of Moss TN and Mrs Belle GERALDS of T'ville also survive. Services by Rev J H SWANN and M T PHEMISTER with burial in the Jane YOKLEY graveyard. Personals: Mr & Mrs Carley Fred SHORT of Indianapolis IN spent weekend here with his mother - Mrs Opal STRODE, Mr STRODE and also Mr SHORT's grandfather, Manderson TOOLEY. Mrs H B SWANN entertained her Sunday School class with an Easter party. Mr and Mrs Jim BOWLES entertained Mr and Mrs Arlie J FISH & family of Frankfort, IN. Mr & Mrs Clyde WALDEN had a baby girl recently, Betsy Belva. Mr & Mrs Ernest FERGUSON entrtained neighbor children with an egg hunt. Sam CARTER said to be improving slowly with a broken arm. Mrs Jenks BRITT and twin sons, Jack Haiden & Jenks Swann, spent last week with her parents, Mr & Mrs H B SWANN. Mrs Clyde WALDEN had visitors last Thursdays - Mr & Mrs Bertie BRAY and Mr & Mrs Arlie J FISH of Frankfort IN. Mrs John B CARTER is spending a few days with Mr & Mrs Jim BOWLES. Cleo BYBEE of Route 3 visited Mr & Mrs B E BILLINGSLEY and family of Westmont IL on Easter Sunday. Mr & Mrs John LEMONS had weekend guests of Mr & Mrs Cecil LONG and sons Joe Bobby and Johnny; Mr & Mrs Ike WARD and children, Mrs. Margaret BASIL and son JD, Mr & Mrs Evans LEMONS & children Mae Dean, Alene and Herbert; Mr & Mrs J R SHIRLEY & sons Larry & Jerry. Mrs H B SWANN had dinner guests Easter Sunday: Mrs Raymond BROWNFIELD of Horse Cave, Gene BROWNFIELD of Glasgows, Mr & Mrs Jenks BRITT & sons of Park City. Attended services at the Baptist Church here. Mr & Mrs Clarence MARTIN & Mr & Mrs Clio HAMMER and famly were Easter dinner guests of Mr & Mrs Mark HALE. Mr & Mrs Layton WALDEN and children Larry Duke and Nancy HUSTON of Hartford KY were visiting Mr WALDEN's parents - Mr & Mrs Bliss WALDEN. Mr & Mrs Otis WADE were Sunday guests of Mr & Mrs Pearl BILLINGSLEY of Cyclone. Children and grandchildren of Mr & Mr D H COMBS gathered at the home near Gamaliel Easter Sunday for an egghunt & dinner. Mary and Martha COMBS received a prize for finding the most eggs; James Robert MINOR found the small egg. Others present were: Mr & Mrs James COMBS & children Mary, Martha, Mildred and Mayrene; Mr & Mrs Jess COMBS and children Billy and Jimmy; Mr & Mrs Paul COMBS, all of Gamaliel; Mr & Mrs Byron WILSON & children Rachel Maud and Tommie, of Louisville; Mr & Mrs Cordel MINOR & children John Daniel, James Robesrt & Roger Dell from Bethpage TN. Mr & Mrs Ferry HAMMER, former residents of the county, entertained a large number of friends & relatives at their home at Route 1 Glasgow on Easter Sunday. Present were: Misse Inez and Genie LYON, Jewell, Joan and Tempie ROSS, Dewey RUSSELL, Clay REEVES, Mr & Mrs J B WILLIAMS & family, Mr & Mrs Billie WILLIAMS, Mr & Mrs Gene ROSS & Charlie V KIRKPATRICK, all of T'ville; Mr & Mrs Royce D HAMMER and daughter, Shirlie Ann of Horse Cave; Mr & Mrs Scott STONE of Smiths Grove and Mrs Ray CLOYD of Mattoon IL.
