EX-TOMPKINSVILLE MAYOR RALPH HAGAN DIES
October 07, 1994

Obituary: TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. -- Ralph T. Hagan, a former Monroe County 
judge and Tompkinsville mayor, died yesterday at the Medical Center at 
Bowling Green after apparently suffering a heart attack. He was 87.
Hagan, a Democrat, was a county judge in the 1960s. He later served 
several terms as mayor. 
He taught at Tompkinsville High School for 11 years and served three 
of those as principal. He also had been a basketball coach there.
In 1965, Hagan was named a member of the advisory board of the Natural 
Resources Department by Gov. Edward T. "Ned" Breathitt.
Hagan had been an officer of the Tompkinsville Area Chamber of Commerce, 
a director of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, president of the Kentucky 
Association of Soil Conservation Districts and chairman of the Monroe 
County Soil Conservation District. He was a Navy veteran of World War 
II, a charter member and former president of Tompkinsville Lions Club, 
a member and past master of Tompkinsville Masonic Lodge and a member of 
Tompkinsville Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Hagan; a son, Gene R. Hagan; two 
daughters, Hettie Finn of Sherwood, Ark., and Rebecca McPherson; a 
sister, Annie Lee Thornberry of Louisville; nine grandchildren; and 
12 great- grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Strode Funeral Home, with 
burial in Evans Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is after 1 p.m. today.
The family suggests that memorial gifts go to the American Heart 
Association or American Cancer Society.
