Member and deacon of Fountain Run Old Missionary Batist Church for more than 50 
years; veteran of WWII, received the Purple Heart for being wounded at the invasion

of Normandy; Bronze Star for Bravers. Insurance agent and retired farmer.
Survivors:
Wife: Helen Bishop Layne
Sons: Bruce and wife Sarah of Fountain Run and Charlie 'Chuck" and wife Susan of 
Franklin, KY
Grandsons: Bo and Cody Layne of Fountain Run and Blake Layne stationed in CA with 
the US Navy.
Sisters: Alyene Dossey of Indianapolis, IN, Byrdne Smith of Houston, TX and Cecil 
Carter of Louisville, KY
Several nieces and nephews.
Services: at the church, 2 pm Wed, 30 Aug 2000, burial Fountain Run Cemetery with 
full military honors.
