"Miss Alice" Patterson Died December 18. Miss Mary Alice Patterson, so familiarly known through Monroe County as "Miss Alice", died at the Monroe County War Memoria Hospital Wednesday morning, after several months of declining health." "Miss Alice" began her teaching career at the age of 18, and spent 52 years in the schoolrooms of the county. An enviable record of having taught in only five of the county schools, speaks for itself as to how well she was accepted by the parents of the various communities." "Miss Alice" was the daughter of the late Billy and Susan Hammer Patterson. Her onlysurvivors are a number of nieces and nephews." "Faculty members of Tompkinsville Graded and High School honored "Miss Alice" with a surprise faculty meeting in 1962, when was forced to retiredue to age regulations. Those of us who was fortunate enough to have had "Miss Alice" as one of our tutors, can really appreciate and understand her sincerety when she remarked at this faculty meeting that "I have not made a great deal of money, but I am the richest person alive, because I had had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people and I have had many experiences which I will cherish forever." "Funeral services will be held at Tompkinsville Baptist Church Friday afternoon, at 1:00 o'clock by Rev. Nobel Cottrell. Interment will be in Liberty Cemetery, with Strode & Lyon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements."
