Solomon's slave, Moses had to deliver a certified copy to prove his emancipation to the Golconda ILL. Court House, when he moved there after Solomon's death. A photo copy of the following was obtained from the Pope County Courthouse in Golconda Ill on 8 November 1999. Transcribed by DMD on 17 Nov 1999. When difficulty with reading is encountered, the suspect words are enclosed by the following symbols < >. Solomon's widow Sarah Jenkins Dickerson married James P. Campbell in Golconda ILL in 1846. Solomon recorded ownership of Revolutionary War Grant of 400 acres on the Big Barron, beside another 100 acres recorded by his son John. This is recorded in the land records for Monroe County held in the Court House of Barron County in Glasgow KY. Monroe County Jun. Term 1844 On motion of Moses a free man of colour emancipated by the last will & testament of Solomon Dickerson < deceased > is to be certified to all to whom it may concern that he was born on the 12th day November 1812. That he is about five feet, ten inches high that he is of a dark copper colour, that he has a scar of about the size of a half dollar on his right side just below the breast or nipple caused by a burn when small also a scar upon the second toe of the left foot caused by a cut with an axe. And there upon the said Moses has in Court Executed and acknowledged bond in the sum of $500 together with James P. and William H. his securities determined as the law directs. Know all men by these presents that I Solomon Dickerson of Monroe County Kentucky being in reasonable health, and of sound mind and disposing memory do make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by him made. And I of dispose of my property in the following manner, first I wish all my just debts paid, secondly its is my will and desire that at my death my Negro Man named Moses shall be free, and that my Executor hereafter named shall be and he is hereby instructed and directed to use if any money or property belonging to my Estate for the purpose of to the said Moses his freedom. And further that he have allowed to him a sufficient quantity of Provision for One year, and it is also my will at my death, my negro woman named Lucy be free and at liberty to live where she may think proper & also be furnished with provision as above named for Moses if necessary. I give and bequeath to my son John R Dickerson all my land that I may own at my death, by his paying to Cephas Dickerson one saddle worth Eighteen dollars, and wheras my son Henry Dickerson died indetted to me about the sum of Two hundred dollars, due by note which is all I desire giving his heirs. And whereas my wife Sarah Dickerson and myself previous to our marriage entered into a Marriage Contract which I wish to be complied with so far as that she have all the property she brought with her & all that she makes whilest she lives with me and I wish all my property notes and chattels of every sort not divise to be sold and that the money equally divided between my wife Sarah Dickerson, so that she have one Sixth proceed of sale with Heirs of my son, James Dickerson & the Children of my daughter Elender McMurtry deceased & the Children of my daughter Elazabeth Kays (Hays) deceased & the heirs of my son Cephas Dickerson deceased & my son John R Dickerson. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint Radford Maxey my executor to see that this my will be executed according to its true intent & meaning. In testimony where of I have hear unto set my hand & seal this 6th day of May 1842. Solomon Dickerson Signed sealed and acknowledged in the pressence of us Radford Maxey Hamut Dickerson Monroe County Nov Term 1842 I Will Butter Clerk of the Monroe County Court do certify that on the 28th day of November 1843. This the last will and testament was produced in open Court & there upon in full by the oath of Radford Maxey & H. Dickerson subscribing witnesses these to be the act and deed of said Dickerson which is ordered to be record which is accordingly done. Test Will Butter Clk A copy Will Butter Clk State of Kentucky Monroe County I Will Butter Clerk of the Monroe County Court in the State aforsaid do certify that the above and forgoing contain a full and complete copy of the record emancipating Moses therein named as appears to us of record in my office < Seal > Givin under my hand & Seal of Office the 23rd day of Jannary 1844 Will Butter Clk State of Kentucky Monroe County I Will Hudspeth Presiding and senior Justice of the Peace in and for the county aforsaid do hereby certify that William Butter where name is to the above and forgoing certificate which is in due form of law is sole clerk in and for the body of Monroe County and as such due faith and credit are due to all his offical acts.
