You may find obvious misspellings which I may or may not have noted by "sic", as I just sometimes found too many. And, within the same document, you may find different spellings for the same name which I made no attempt to discern which was the correct spelling. Shirley This Indenture made and entered into this 21st day of March 1857 by and between John I Davis of the county of Montgomery and state of Kentucky of the first part and William Nelson of the same county and state of the second part Witnesseth: That the said Davis for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and fifty dollars, Sixty dollars of which is in hand paid, by the said Nelson the receip(sic) of which is hereby acknowledged by the said Davis: and the balance which is one hundred and Ninety dollars secured to be paid on the 25th day of December 1857, by note this day executed to the said Davis by the said Nelson, has grandted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and convey unto the said Wm Nelson all his undivided interest in and to a certain tract or parcelof land situate lying and being in the county & state aforesaid on the waters of Somerset containing One hundred and forty two acres & one Rood, it being, all the interest right and title which , Benjamin S Davis his father died siezed and possessed, and is the same tract of land that was surveyed by William Chiles, for the allotment of Dower out of the same to Polly Davis the widow of the said Benj S Davis, which allotment and report of Commr is of record in the Montgomery county court clerk's office, in Record Book A page 102, There being twelve heirs, it is intended by this Indenture to convey the undivided twelfth part of said tract of land. It is further understood between the parties that the said John S Davis also conveys all his interest in the dower which was allotted to Mrs Polly Davis. To have and to hold the said undivided twelfth of the said One hundred and forty two acres & one Rood: with its appurtenances and improvements unto him the said Nelson his heirs &C forever, against him the said John S Davis his heirs Executors & Administrators forever with general warranty. Given under my hand this day and date above written John S Davis * State of Kentucky Montgomery county} S.S. I Ezekiel E Garrett clerk of the court for the county aforesaid, do certify that this deed from John S Davis to William Nelson was this day produced to me in my office and acknowledged by the said John S Davis to be his act and deed for the purposes therein contained.
