M5 SH18 H838 2 Oct. 4th 1794 Clark County, Kentucky We the inhabitants of Little Mountain & Springfield congregations, being destitute of the regular & stated means of grace, have felt ourselves reduced to a dilemma under the prospect of raising our familys in such a situation. Having had some opportunity of the labours of the Rev'rd Joseph Howe, a candidate from the Presbytery of South Carolina, & thinking that his ministry under the blessing of heaven might be usefull to us & our familys, we humbly pray & petition your rev'rd body for his labours for one year amongst us, for which that we may be delivered from the enthralldom of the world. We promise to pay him the sum of one hundred pounds, one third paid in cash, the other two thirds in marchantable produce, or if Mr. Howe should incline to reserve one third of his time to himself, we promise to pay him for the other two thirds of his time in proportion, at the rate of one hundred pounds per annum for his whole labours, on condition that Mr. Howe settles with his family in the bounds of our two congregations. In hopes that the Lord may direct you, bless you in all your consultations, & prosper from under your care is the earnest prayer of your humble petitioners. ***************************************************************** USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
