Enl April 19, 1814 Dis. Aug 3, 1814. Residence: 1855 Morgan Co. Ky of Soldier 1871, Montgomery Co (P.O. Mt. Sterling) Ky. Maiden names of wives: COMFORT SEXTON and NANCY FULKS. Marriage of soldier and last wife, 1855 Morgan Co Ky. .......... War of 1812 Declaration of Soldier for Pension. State of Kentucky, County of Montgomery} SS:: On this 12th day of April 1871 person appeared before me, J. R. Garrett, Clerk of the County Court, ....aforesaid CHARLES McLANE aged seventy-five years, a resident of Montgomery County...who being duly sworn....declares that he has been married, but his wife is now dead - in fact he has been twice married & both wives dead - the first one was named COMFORT SEXTON and the last NANCY FULKS and he was married to the latter at JOS. NICHELLs in Morgan Co Ky on the day of 1855 or near that time: that he served the full period of 60 days & more in the military service of the United States in the war of 1812: that he is the identical CHAS McLANE who enlisted & volunteered in Captain WM. GREGORY's company 4th Regiment the Brigade & Division is not now remembered, but his Colonel was named ELISHA BOYD, another chief officer was Gen ANDREW PARKER. He enlisted at Martinsburg Va on the day of 1813. He thinks it was in 1813, and he was honorably discharged on the day of 1814, though as to these dates he cannot now be certain that he was a private at first & went to Norfolk Va & staid there about three months & then went home, and then went again to Bladensburg Md and got there the day after the Battle & staid there about two weeks. That he was in a little skirmish with the British at Craney Island near Norfolk. That he has obtained a land warrant & his discharge is lost; ....that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act.....and appoints with full poweer of substitution & revocation WM. H. HALL of Mt. Sterling, Ky. his true & lawful attorney....that his post office is at Mt. Sterling, County of Montgomery & State of Kentucky; that his domicile or place of abode is in Montgomery County, Ky. /s/ CHAS (X) McLANE. Attest: WM. H. HOLT, RICHARD REID JR. .......... The State of Kentucky, Greenup County} SS. On this Seventh day of December A.D. 1855 personally appeared before me....CHARLES McLANE aged 56 years a resident of Morgan County, in the State of Kentucky, who...declares that he is the identical CHARLES McLANE who was a Private in the company commanded by Captain WILLIAM GREGORY in the Fith Regiment of Virginia Militia Mounted commanded by Col. ELISHA BOYD in the War of Declared by the United States against Great Britain on the 18th day of June 1812 ; That he was a substitute for SAMUEL MAYNER who had been drafted in the said company & Regiment of Mounted Va. Militia. That he was drafted at Norfolk Va on or about the (not recollected) day of May A.D.1813....and was honorably discharged at Norfolk, Va. on the (not recollected) day of August A.D. 1813......he has not received a Warrant for Bounty Land.... /s/ CHARLES (X) McLANE.
