Sterling Advocate Mr. Alexander Scobee Dead Mr. Alexander Scobee, better known as “Uncle Sandy”, who for many years was a resident of Montgomery County, but who lived with his daughter, Mrs. N. T. Benton, of Winchester died Thursday, August 18, and was buried Friday in the Winchester Cemetery. Mr. Scobee was one of the best known citizens of Montgomery County and was a gentleman of the old school, staunch and true to his friends always. He was a member of the old hunting club that built Hunters Camp near Spencer Station many years ago and he used to enjoy telling of the many good times he and the “boys’ had out there. He had a world of friends who will learn of his death with regret. During the Civil War he embraced the cause of the South and was a member of Company D Eighth Kentucky in Morgan’s command. Mr. Scobee left surviving him two children, Mrs. N. T. Benton of Winchester, and Sam P. Scobee of Louisville. The following attended the funeral from this county: J. C. Scobee, W. N. Scobee, E. O. Gorrell and wife, Miss Rannie Burroughs, and Mrs. John Rice. Note the article failed to mention Alex Scobee’s wife, Sarah E. (Lizzie)Scobee.
