WILL: John Hodges, 1809, Montgomery Co., KY Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2001 5:13 PM Bill Scroggin (itcscrog@aol.com) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN. I, John Hodges, of Montgomery County and the State of Kentucky, being weak in boddy but of sound mind and memory, calling to mind the immortality of my boddy and that it is appointed for all men once to die and after that Judgement, do make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament, revoking all others heretofore made by me. First, I recommend my soul to God who gave it my boddy to be buried in a Christian like manner, and after my just debts are paid what worldly estate it has pleased God to bless me with, I dispose of it in the following manner to (wit) Item: It is my will that my beloved wife Deborah Hodges shall enjoy during her natural life all my Estate both personal and real after her decease to go and descent as follows: Item: I give my son Jesse Hodges one negro boy named Joe to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my daughter Nancy Hodges one negro girl Phyllis to her and her heirs forever. Item: It is my will and desire after the death of my wife Deborah, that my negro woman Lydia shall be free to enjoy her liberty. Item: I give to my daughter Lucy England twenty-five pounds cash to be raised out of my estate. Item: I give to my daughter Mary Logan twenty-five pounds cash to be raised out of my estate. Item: It is my will after the death of my wife that all the reside of my estate and not before bequeathed shall be equally divided between my four children to (wit) - Jessie Hodges, Nancy Hodges, Lucy England and Mary Logan. Lastly I constitute appoint my friends [names hard to read, may be Van (?), B. Ralls, and Lawrence Evirtsons] to this my last will and testament in Testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal this 15th day of March in the year of my Lord, one thousand eight hundred and nine.
