Born Feb. 14, 1928, in Morgan County, Ky., he was the son of the late Ora and Mary Etta Taulbee Bellamy and son-in-law of the late Taylor and Mildred Williams Ellington. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Rexford Bellamy in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alma Lois Ellington Bellamy, and their four children and spouses, Janet and Jeff Grubb of Morehead, Greg and Ana Bellamy of Lexington, Lisa and Jamie Brown of Morehead and Toni and David Withrow of Morehead. Other survivors include one brother, Dr. George Bellamy of West Liberty; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Bellamy was a veteran of the United States Navy Seabees, having served almost three years, from July 1945 to December 1947. A 1954 graduate of Morehead State University, Harold was a member of the Campus Club, which later became Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. During their college years, his son Greg and grandson Gabe became members of SAE. His daughter Lisa and granddaughter Ashley were inducted into the honor society, thus spanning three generations in both organizations. Harold was an enthusiastic supporter of the University. He started the M.S.U. Eagle Athletic Fund, the first official organization to raise outside money for athletics at Morehead. He was a charter member of the Morehead State University Foundation and for a number of years, served on its board of directors. He was also an Adjunct Professor at the University for nine years. He was a member of the Morehead State University Alumni Hall of Fame. A well-known businessman, he was founder, charter member and first president of the Morehead Life Underwriters Association. He served on the General Agents board of directors for American Health and Life Insurance Company for several years and was the top salesman for many years. He founded Bellamy Insurance Agency in Morehead, which later became Health Insurance Services Inc. For more than 20 years, Harold was a member of the Morehead Kiwanis Club and served as president, vice president and commissioner of Little League Baseball, which the club sponsored. He was a past member and president of the Lake Lewman Association and was a member of the board of directors and secretary-treasurer for nine years. Mr. Bellamy was the recipient of the Morehead Lions Club Distinguished Service Award in 1986. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1977. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel in Morehead with the Rev. George Murray Bellamy, the Rev. Ben Furman and the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Mausoleum with full military rites to be conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Ryan Kipling Bennett, Blaine Larsen Bellamy, James Gabriel Brown, Gregory Tyler Brown, Devon Scott Bellamy, Cameron Mitchell Bellamy; his nephews, George Murray Bellamy and William McCoy Bellamy; and grandson-in-law, Joseph Mitchell Mirus. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters, Ashley Brown Mirus, Leigh Taylor Bennett, Blair Renee McKinney, Emily Cole Brown, Krista Marie McKinney and Alma (Allie) Whitney Brown; and his great-grandsons, Brayden Mitchell Mirus and Gavin James Bellamy Mirus.
