I Adam Shank of the County of Muhlenberg and State of Kentucky being weak and sick, tho of a sound mind & perfect memory and understanding the uncertainty of this life, think fit to make this my Last Will and Testament in the following manner. To wit: As touching my worldly estate it is my Will that all my just debts be faithfully paid. 1st, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Shank the plantation whereon I now live, together with all my personal estate for the term of four years. 2d, I give and bequeath unto my son Michael Shank one hundred acres of land purchased of Jacob Landis provided he will stay with his mother four years and help to pay for the said Land, at which time is to have possession three years. After he is to pay fifty dollars to my Executors and four years after the first payment pay fifty dollars more to my Executors. Thridly, I give and bequeath unto my son John Shank the land and plantation whereon I now live provided he will stay with his mother four years and work with the family and is to pay two hundred dollars in three payments. One third three years after the above mentioned time expired and one third the year following and so the next untill paid. He also is to maintain his mother and furnish her with a house her lifetime or during her widowhood. Fourthly, I give and bequeath unto my son Jacob Shank Three hundred dollars in cash, the money paid by Michael and John Shank provided he will stay with his mother four years and work with the family. 5thly, It is my will that Seven years after my death all the personal property be sold except one bed and bedstead, one cow and the household and Kitchen furniture, which my wife Elizabeth is to have her lifetime. And the money which may arise out of said Sale is to be equally divided to my three daughters Caly (or Caby?) Shank, Sally Shank and Polly Shank. Lastly I do constitute Martin Killinger and Peter Shavers(?) my Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. In testimony whereof have herein set my hand and affixed my seal this 7th day of December 1821.
