STOUT, W. W. - STOUT, SHINDLER, VAN DYKE, McCALLISTER

W. W. STOUT was born in Shelby County, Ky., in 1842, a son of D. P. Stout, 
of Shelby County, whose ancestors moved from New Jersey to Virginia and 
thence to Kentucky.  D. P. was born in June, 1814, and died in 1875, at 
Bloomfield, Nelson County.  He was a farmer by occupation, and was a member 
of the Legislature from Nelson County.  In religion he was a Baptist.  The 
mother of our subject was Mary A. Shindler; she was born in 1815, and is 
still living, a member of the Baptist Church.  The Shindlers are an old 
family in the State, and probably came from Pennsylvania.  Our subject is the 
eldest of four children, and the only one now living.  He has followed 
farming and stock raising all his life, and is extensively engaged in buying 
and shipping stock.  He owns 700 acres on the Louisville Van Dyke Mill Pike.   
He is a member of the Baptist Church.  The mother of all the Stouts was a 
native of Amsterdam, Holland, so says Benedict's History of the Baptist 
denomination.  She was here when the Indians were in the country, and was 
held captive by them for many years, and at one time nearly died of 
starvation.  She was taken to a white man's cabin, and there afterward 
married.  In 1883 our subject married Mrs. Keziah Van Dyke, widow of Elijah 
Van Dyke, and daughter of a Mr. McCallister.  She was born in Henry County 
in 1841, and died July 8, 1885, a member of the Baptist Church. To them was 
born one child, who died in infancy.
