Aug 8th 1886 Vol.J. or I 89.00 STATE of KENTUCKY Nelson Co On this the 2nd day of October 1852 Before me William Samuels one of the acting Justices of the peace within and for the county aforesaid, Personally appeared Mrs. Jane Jones a resident of said county aged 83 years After being duly sworn doth on her oath make the following Declaration in order to obtain the Benefit of the promisees made by the Act of Congress lassed? 1832 & 1838 granting pension to certain Soldiers of the Revolution and any other acts which may provide for her That she is the widow of John Jones deceased, who was a soldier in the army of the revolution. That he entered the service of Said War in or near__________County State of Virginia about the Year 1781 for the term of 18 months and served in a ???????? Company commanded by Capt Roggers & Col Clark of the State line in the Western service of said war. That he served out said tour, and was (she thinks, but is not certain) discharged at or near Vincians about the close of the war. That She said John Jones her said husband never received a pension in his lifetime. That he died in Nelson County Kentucky on the 17th day of May in the year 1840 (Could be 1820) That she has never since married nor applied for a pension not knowing she was provided for by any Act of Congress unless her Husband had applied for & established his claim in his lifetime. That she was married to the said John Jones in ______county State of Virginia by Rev. W. Taylor on the 3rd day of August in the year 1789 all of which will more fully appear by reference to the proof accompanying this application and the muster roll of the complying aforesaid _____ which she very respectfully vefens?( that her Maiden name was Jane Sands ) Her X mark Jane Jones I Wilson Samuels one of the acting justicies of the peace witch in & for the County of Nelson in the State of Kentucky, do hereby certify that this Jane Jones of said county this day personally appeared before me in said county and ?????? and subscribed to her forgoing declaration (after I had read it to her with a correct understanding of it's contents & meaning I further certify that the said Jane Jones is personally known by me and that she is a lady who suffered a good c?raden for nearly ?? and that from age & infirmity she is unable to attend in Court. Jones was Born in the year 1802 3rd day of December Samuel Jones was Born in the year 1804 August 13th and died the 17th year of his life WIDOW'S CLAIM TO BOUNTY LAND ACT OF 3 March 1855 State of Kentucky County of Nelson On this 14th day of November A. D. 1855 personally appeared before me as Justice of the Peace, within the county and State aforesaid Jane Jones aged 84 years, a resident of Nelson County in the State of Kentucky, who is being duly sworn to law declares, that she is the widow of John Jones deceased, who was a Rev.. Solider in the company, commanded by Captain George Col Clark in the State line regiment of Virginia commanded by Colonel George Rogers Clark and Major_________ in the War with War of Independence the Revolution There her said husband volunteered at _____ on or about the________ day of A. D. 18__ as, for the term of 18 months or Two years and continued in actual service in said war for the term of Two Years and was honorably discharged at __________on _______day of ___________Ad 18___ as will appear by the muster rolls of said company and that her marriage to the said John Jones in___ on the ____day of _________AD. 18__ by one _______________and that her maiden name was Jane Sands that her said husband died in Nelson County KY on the say of ___1840 that she is still a widow: and she further declares she had by her said husband Ten Children and the following is now living viz: and Elizabeth and Mary, William and James And that she hereby respectfully Scsc?d to her Rev. Paper on ????? high A Rev. Pension as fsant'd as contained as things for her necessity She made this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land, arrears of pay, half pay, three months extra pay and other allowances to which she may be entitiled under the various acts of Congress. Pertaining thereto. She hereby revokes all powers of Attorney or papers hereto executed by her, and appoints Gleason F. Lewis at Cleveland, Ohio her Attorney, to receive and receipt for the same. her X Mark Jane Jones Widow's signature Sworn and subscribed to before the day and the year above written, and I state that I am not interested in the Above application T.W. Samuels Justice of the Peace State of Kentucky County of Nelson On this 14th day of November A.D. 1855 personally appeared before me, a justice of the peace, in and for the county and state aforesaid Amderda Goitha Head and John E. Head who are credible witness and who being duly sworn according to law declare that they personally know Jane Jones who is the Widow of John Jones, deceased, who was a Priv. Of Calvary in the company of Captain________________in the State Line regiment. State of Kentucky Nelson County _ScT I. J. Dauvin E. Elliott Clerk of the circuit court for the County aforesaid, do Certify that the following contains a true copy of a Marriage Bond Now on File with said office together with a Memorandum filed with the said Bond (viz) Know all men by these presents that we John Jones and James Winn are held and firmly unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the final Sum of Fifty pounds. To be paid to the said Commonwealth to which payment will and truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves @ finally by these presents. Sealed and dated the 31-say of July 1789. Where as a marriage is speedily intended to solemnized between the above Bound John Jones and Jane Sands if therefore there should be no Just cause to obstruct the said Marriage then this obligation to be void or /Else remain in full Force and virtue Teste John Jones (seal) Isaac Morrison James Winn (Seal) Sir Please to grant John Jones & license to be married to my Daughter Jane Sands_ I shall be forever your to command July 22nd day of 1789 Teste Isaac Hynes= James Sands I. Also certify that the above named John Jones and Jane Sands were married by William Taylor on the 6th day of August 1789 As appears of record in Marriage register of my office In Testimony While I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed the seal of said court this 29th of November 1832. Darwin Elliott CW II. Letter from the Archives to inquirer Jane widow of John Jones, was allowed pension on her application executed October 2, 1852. At which time she was aged eight-three years and resided in Nelson Co, Kentucky The widow stated she had ten Children by her husband John Jones: the names of the following children by her husband John Jones of the following are shown William Jones born August 20, 1790 Margaret Jones born April 3, 1792 Elizabeth Jones born December 23, 1794 James Jones born May 17, 1799 Robert C. Jones Born December 14, 1801 Samuel H. Jones born August 13 or 15, 1804. Died in the 17th year of his age In 1855, four Children were living, Name Elizabeth Mary, William and James Jones. The names of the other three children are not given. In 1856 William S. Jones lived in Nelson Co Kentucky: no relationship to this family was shown.
