He was the eldest son of the late Hon. Jasper W. Muir, one or the most prominent attorneys and businessmen of Kentucky. When but sixteen years of age N. W. Muir entered the banking establishment of Wilson & Muir, a clerk. To that institution he devoted his entire life. Owing almost most entirely to his efforts the business expanded from the small bank of Wilson & Muir, to the large and flourishing institution of Muir, Wilson & Muir of Bardstown and Bloomfield. N. W. Muir was recognized one of the best posted and most reliable banking authorities in Kentucky. And at any time he chose to accept he would have been made president of a large banking Co. of Louisville, but he steadfastly refused, preferring to devote his energies and talents to the bank with which he had been associated all his life. N. W. Muir was broad minded and one of the most charitable men of Nelson county, and a number of indigent families of this city were supported almost entirely by him. He was a. member and treasurer of the Presbyterian church and a democrat in politics. He was widely known and of a social disposition. He had gone to Louisville with his wife and only son Thursday morning for the purpose of making some christmas purchases. The funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Muir, and their son, George Shadburne Muir was held at the residence Sunday afternoon, after which the three bodies were interred in the Muir lot in the Bardstown cemetery.
