NALL and Thomas HUNTER. Total Worth: $837. Returned 16 Sep 1819. p. 133 Sale of the personal estate of Joseph SETTLES dec'd. Total $406.99, Joel SETTLES executor. These are from the old Nelson Co. Pioneer and they did not list buyers unless they had the same name as the deceased - "Family buyers: James, William, Joel, Susannah, Sally, Lidd, Ann, Betty SETTLES" 16 Sep 1819. Nelson Co. KY Chancery Court 1838: Peter SPALDING vs. Polly SETTLES, Susan SETTLES, Mima SETTLES, John BARNES and Wife Ann, formerly SETTLES, William SETTLES, Benjamin SETTLES, Rozella SETTLES, children of Joel SETTLES, dec'd and Isaac SETTLES, William SETTLES, Washington SETTLES, Jefferson SETTLES, Fred SETTLES, Joseph SETTLES, George SETTLES and Mr. SMITH and wife Eliza formerly SETTLES, children of James SETTLES deceased. As near as I can tell (unless I am missing him) Joseph SETTLES appeared for the first time on a tithable list in Nelson Co. in 1792 in Benjamin FRYE's list "on the south and west side of the Rolling Fork River" He is tithed for himself only - no land shown. On the 1800 list he is tithed 12 May for himself and 361 acres in "the Southern Area" of Nelson Co. - taken by Anthony FOSTER.
