Collier and most of the men in his Company was living in Nicholas County, Kentucky at the time of their enlistment on August 15, 1812. Although the first enlistment was originally for three months, almost all of the men extended their enlistment period until February 14, 1813. Capt. Collier's Company was engaged in the two battles with the British and Indians at the River Raisin (Frenchtown) in January of 1813. Capt. Collier states in his application for military pension that he was taken prisoner by the British for a brief period but was released on or about February 14, 1813. Several of the men in his Company (those who qualified for military pension) also similarly stated being held captive by the British.
