W. “Ward” Ecton, Sr., died Thursday, September 26, 2003, at Johnson Mathers Nursing Home. She was born in Nicholas County to the late John Samuel & Tevis Shrout Wilson. She was a retired employee of Nicholas County Hospital and attended Eastern State Normal School in Richmond. She was a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church and had been a member of Moorefield United Methodist Church for 60 years prior to moving to Carlisle in 1980. She served on the church board, as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent. She was also an officer with the Methodist Women. She was a member of the Moorefield Homemakers and had served as president of the Moorefield Homemakers and president of the Nicholas County Homemakers. Survivors are: three sons - John (& Patsy) Ecton of Carlisle, Paul (& Mary) Ecton of Milford, Ohio, and Ralph (& Helen) Ecton, Lexington; a daughter - Betty (& Ellis) Flora, Frankfort; a sister - Lorene (& Tom) Brough, Lexington; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, J. W. Ecton, Jr., and a granddaughter. Services were conducted Monday, September 29, at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Howard Livingood. Burial was in Carlisle Cemetery. Casket bearers were Paul, Dan & Phil Ecton, Steve & Mark Flora and Mike Schuttz. Honorary bearers were granddaughters. Contributions are suggested to the Johnson Mathers Nursing Home Activities Fund or Moorefield United Methodist Church. e235001.txt
