Young, 1876 Thursday 10 Feb. 1876 Carlisle Mercury Carlisle, Nicholas Co., KY Card from L. D. Young. To the Democratic Party of Nicholas County: Four years ago I was before you as a candidate for the office of sheriff. Our committee decided (and the times seemed to demand) that the nominations should be made by primary election. While my chances were equally as good as those of my worthy opponents, I deemed it best for the interests, harmony and fraternal feelings of our party that the unpleasant disorganizing consequences resulting from a heated contest should, if possible, be avoided; and holding then, as I do now and always shall, that the success of party principles is paramount to individual claims, I withdrew my claims up on the party. I am now before you again as a candidate for the same office, and earnestly appeal to you for the display of that charitable magnanimous spirit for which the good old Democracy has always been noted. I shall be truly thankful should you see fit to nominate me, and , if elected, will strive to discharge my duties faithfully and honestly. I hope at an early day to meet every Democrat in the county, and in the meantime beg you to compare and consider my claims with those of the other gentlemen who are candidates. Respectfully, L. D.
