Aug. 1836, plus some genealogical information. Ed Dolan. ----------- (William Collier was a son of John Collier, whose will is on the Nicholas Co. archives, and Hannah Hamlett. He was b. in Charlotte Co., Va. ca. 1770/1772. He married there Elizabeth Williams on 3 March, 1794. She was a daughter of Thomas Williams and Elizabeth ? Thomas Williams left a will in Charlotte Co., Va., recorded on 6 June, 1803. William Collier and Elizabeth moved to Nicholas Co. about 1802 and lived near his father John on Steele's Run. In the name of God Amen! I William Collier of Nicholas County & State of Kentucky, being weak in body, but of sound mind & disposing [?] and calling to mind the uncertainity of human life, & being to desirous to dispose of all such Worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath the same in manner & form following, towit; 1st I give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Collier the farm whereon I now live which formerly belonged to my father John Collier deceased containing about three hundred ninety one acres of land during her natural life which she is to hold together with the appurtances thereto belonging with all the household and kitchen furniture and farming utensils or so much thereof as she may wish to retain or any stock that she may wish to retain for her own use all of which my said wife is to hold and have for her own use and at her own disposal so long as she shall live. Item 2nd. I also give and bequeath to my wife in addition to the above a black man named Isaac and a black woman named Kinney [spelling unsure] which she is to hold during her natural life and at her death I will that the said Kinney and her increase be equally divided between my four younger daughters, Eliza Williams, Lucy Sharp, Margaret Smizer and Elizabeth Collier & their heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Conway a black girl named Mend--- which she is to have during her natural life with all her increase and at her death I will that the said Mend--- and her increase be equally divided among the children of my daughter Sarah Conway. 4th. I will that after my death the Towler farm be disposed of as my executors may think best and after all my just debts [?] paid that the proceeds of sd. farm be divided equally divided among my children that are now living, that is to say Sarah Conway, Thomas W. Collier, John Collier, Eliza Williams, Joseph J. Collier, William T. Collier, Lucy Sharp, Margaret Smizer, Robert Collier and Elizabeth Collier. Item 5. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Collier a bay mare filley. I will that none of my children be made [?] for anything which I may have given them heretofore of my estate except so far as any of them may have (recieved?) any of the negroes or their increase which were willed to myself and wife by Thomas Williams deceased during our natural life & at our death to descend to our heirs equally. It is my will that after my death and the death of my wife that the said negroes be brought together and equally divided agreeably to the true intent of said will. Item 7th. I will that at the death of my wife the farm whereon I now live which I have willed to her during her natural life be sold together with any part of my estate not herein disposed of, and the proceeds thereof equally divided between my ten children above named or their heirs except so much of said proceeds as may be herein after devised to Thomas & Joseph J. Collier. Item 8th. I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Collier two hundred dollars,and to my son Joseph J. Collier three hundred dollars to be paid to them out of the proceeds of my last mentioned farm before the distribution shall be made as directed above, whichis by me designed to make them equal with the rest of my children. I will that Elizabeth Collier my wife and John Collier my son be, and they are hereby appointed my executrix and executor without them being required to give security. Adair The foregoing will of William Collier was this day the 3 th of July signed and sealed by him in presence of us. Joshua Irwin & William P. Adair. Nicholas County Court [?] September Term 1836. This instrument in writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William Collier Sr. deceased, was produced in open court, and proved by the oath of William P. Adair, a subscribing witness thereto, who also proved to the satisfaction of the court, that Joshua Irwin, the other subscribing witness thereto, did sign said will as a witness in his presence, and in the presence of the testator.
