Crowe owned land in Ohio County, KY where he was born 24 November 1898. He was the son of William Payton and Martha Josephine Wells Crowe, William was born in Hancock County,August 1857 and Martha J. Wells was born in Boone County, Indiana. William was the eldest son of Warren and Catherine Fuqua Crowe. Warren was born in Ohio County, 1820, and owned land there as well as 158 acres in Hancock County, KY. Warren's parents migrated to Ohio County from Maryland. Arthur Crowe married Mary L. Baker, April, 1927. They had five children. Arthur was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church in Ohio County, KY. He was a tobacco farmer and after WW II, worked at V.E.Anderson Mfg. Company, then located in Owensboro, KY. He attended school at Haynesville School in Ohio County, KY, where he developed a life-long interest in history, geography and politics. He built the home for his wife and children with his own hands. He helped neigbors and family members when need arose. His hobbies were playing croquet, checkers and pool. He lived by the motto, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." He was honest to a fault and expected a man's word to be his bond. Though he was passionate about his politics, he held no office. He wrote no books, yet he loved to read. In essence, he is one of the "little people" who is the backbone of what is right about this nation. His roots go deep into the ground of Ohio County, KY and extend all the way back to the founding of this county. Men like Arthur Crowe should be remembered. He died at his home in Ohio County,KY, 09 July 1986, within two mile of where he was born. He lived a long, contented life and left a legacy of good deeds for his church, his family and his county. Additional Comments: He acomplished all that he did with a severe hearing impairment that occured as a result of a childhood fever. Several of his siblings died with the fever. He never indulged in self-pity. Whatever life gave him, he accepted and made the best of it.
