I give and bequeath to my executors herein after mentioned all my estate real and personal intrust that they or such of them as shall qualify shall and will hold and dispose of the same to the uses and for the purposes following First for the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses which I wish paid with as little delay as practiable and putting my creditors to no unnysary expenses or costs and any debts that my executors believe to be unjust I desire them to defeat by any legal means - Secondly after the payment of my just debts I desire my negro woman Lucretia to the use and benefit of the children of my son Andrew B. Monroe and will those now living as those that may hereafter be born to be hired out or permited to remain in the possession of their parents as my said executors may consider most conducive to their comfort and convenience and when the youngest child of my said son shall arrive at full age or marry the said Lucretia and her increase to be equally divided amongst his children an their issue. Thirdly my negro woman Harriot Biram to be hired out and the proceeds of her hire equally divided amongst the children of my daughter Mary Bell and she and her increase to be equally divided amongst the children of my said daughter and their issue whenever it can be done and as she has been a favorite servant and I do not wish her to be sold out of the family of (?) of the children of my said daughter will at their arrival at full age or marrying take said negro Harriot at a fair valuation to be then fixed by my said executors or some two or more persons they may select and pay to the other children their respective portions of such value my executors are authorized to permit him or her to do so and to vest in such child the absolute property in said slave. Fourthly that they sell all my other property on such credit as they may think best and after the payment of my debts as aforesaid they pay to the children of my deceased daughter Eleanor Baltzell the sum two hundred and seventy dollars jointly and should there remain a surplus that they divide the same amongst the said children of my said son Andrew and my daughter Mary and Eleanor such as are then living one third to each set of children. Fifthly - I devise to my son Andrew Ball the property I purchased at a constables sale against him and do not wish it considered as a party of my property and request the same to be left in his posesion and I do also devise to him my interest in the growing crop and the cow with her young calf I purchased of Lewis Kincheloe. Sixthly - I appoint Richard P. Nall Francis R. Black and Richard L. Walker my executors of this my last will and request that they shall not be required to give security and do direct that each shall be responsible for his own acts alone. Given under my hand this Twenty-First day of May 1837 in presence of the undersigned. John Monroe Witnesses George Wedding Zachariah Harris Page 53 Ohio County Court June 5th 1837 the last Will and Testament of John Monroe deceased was produced in court and proved by the oath of George Wedding and Zachariah Harris subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and there upon Richard L. Walker and Richard P. Nall and Francis R. Black the executors therein named came into court and took the oath required by law whereupon orderd that a certificate of the probate then of be granted them in due form bond being dispensed with the will.
