Esq. - Oldham Co "HISTORY OF LAWRENCE, ORANGE & WASHINGTON COUNTIES, INDIANA" GOODSPEED BROS. 1884 JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, WASHINGTON COUNTY PAGE 900 WILLIAM P. ENOCHS, ESQ., one of the pioneers of Washington County, settled in 1824, when he came with his parents from Oldham County, Ky., where he was born March 8, 1815. He was one of eight children born to Garrard and Sarah (Johnson) Enochs, both natives of North Carolina, in which State they were married, and a few years after, about 1802, removed to Kentucky. Mr. Enochs died April 9, 1852, and his wife, May 30, 1847. After the marriage of our subject he bought the farm of 120 acres upon which he still resides. He served as Justice of the Peace of Jefferson Township for sixteen consecutive years, and was also Township Trustee for several years. He is an excellent business man and has been much employed by the people of the vicinity to attend to their legal affairs. Mr. Enochs married May 27, 1841, Mary M. Lytle, a native of Kentucky, and a daughter of Lewis and Ann (Holmes) Lytle. They have had five children: William N., Sarah A., Thomas C., James L and Elizabeth A. (deceased).
