   having applied to the Clerk of County Court of Smyth  for a Marriage 
License and being requested, I make the following Certificate, as required by 
the Act of the General Assembley, passed April 7th, 1858

Note:  The following is a handwritten permission note from Nicholas Snavely:
december 4, 1865
Mr. William Secstain(?) let Joseph A. Ralston have licens to marry my daughter

Additional Comments:
F. S. Snavely is Susan's brother.  His name is Ferinand Sprinkle Snavely.    
Joe and Susan named one of their sons the same and called him "Doc".
