William F. Lock - War of 1812 Pension Application of his widow Rebecca ----------------- State of Illinois County of McLean On this 22nd day of October 1855 A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty five personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County & State aforesaid Rebecca Lock aged sixty six years a resident of McLean County in the State of Illinois who being duly sworn according to Law declares that she is the widow of William F. Lock deceased who was the identical person who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Samuel Combes in the War with Great Britian in the years 1812 & 1813. That her said husband volunteered in Bourbon County Kentucky on [blank] day of 1812 - for the term of three months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of at least three months and was honorably discharged at [blank] on or about [blank] day of 1813. She further states that she was married to the said William F. Lock on [blank] day of [blank] in Bourbon County Kentucky by one William Foreman a minister of the Gospel that her name before her marriage was Rebecca Nelson. That her said husband died in Owen County Kentucky on or about 7th day of November 1851- One thousand eight hundred and fifty one that she is a widow at the date of executing this her declaration. That her said husband obtained a Bounty Land Warrant under the act approved September 28 1850 for 40 acres No. [blank] which has been Legally transferred and disposed of and is not within her power to return-- She refers to said declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty Land to which she may be entitled under the act approved March 3rd 1855. She also declares that she has never received nor applied for bounty Land under this or any other act of Congress Rebecca(her mark) Lock seal Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written and I certify that I believe the claimant to be the identical person she represents herself to be and that I have no interest in the claim L. Wilhoit and Sarah W. Dyke residents of the State of Illinois and County of McLean who being duly sworn according to Law declare that they are personally & well acquainted with Mrs. Rebecca Lock who saw her make her mark to the foregoing declaration that they know her to be the identical person represented and that she is now the widow of said William F. Lock and that they are disinterested witnesses. Willis C. Willhoite Sarah W. Dyke Subscribed and sworn to before me L. Lawrence Jr. State of Illinois McLean County I E.H. Rood Clerk of the County Court in and for said County do hereby certify that L. Laurence Esq whose genuine signature appears to the foregoing certificates was at the time of signing the same acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County duly commissioned and qualified as appears to me of record and as such full faith and credit are due to all his official acts. Rood Clk ******************************** War of 1812 Declaration for Pension State of Kentucky County of Henry On this 18 day of April AD 1871 personally appears before me E.P. Thomas clerk of the Henry County Court a court of record in and for the county and State aforesaid Rebeckah Lock aged 80 years a resident of Owen County State of Kentucky who being duly sworn according to law declars that she is the widow of William F. Lock, who served the full period of Sixty days in the War of 1812 and who was the identical William F. Lock who was enrolled in Captain Samuel Combs company Richard M. Johnsons regiment [blank] Brigade [blank] Division at Paris Ky on the day of [blank]181[blank] and was honorably discharged at Fort Megs on the [blank] day of [blank] 181[blank] that he served as a private and participated with his company in Battle of Thames. That she was married under the name of Rebeckah Nelson to said William F. Lock on the [blank] dya of [blank] AD 181[blank] by Rev. William Firman at the said Firmans residence in the county of Bourbon State of Kentucky there being no legal barrier to such marriage that her said husband died at his residence in the county of Owen State of Kentucky on the 7 day of Dec 1852 and that she has not remarried Since his death that at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did She of her Said husband adhere to the causes of the enemies of the Government giving them aid or comfort or exercise the functions of any office whatever under any authority or pretended authority in hostility to the United States that She will Support the constitution of the United State that She is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act that She makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension rolls of the United States under the provisions of the act of February 14 1871 and hereby constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation John M. Rowlett of Lockport Ky her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued that her post office adress is at Gratz Kentucky that her place of abode is one mile from Gratz on the turnpike to Owenton Ky attest Mary Ann Smoot Rebeckah (her mark) Lock Mary F.
