Owsley County, Kentucky: Long Field Cemetery Submitted to the KyGenWeb by: Diana Wells 9 May 2001 harlan@ccrtc.com *************************************************************************** Longfield Cemetary, Right Hand Fork of Upper Buffalo Creek, Owsley County. We were told by some older Couch's that there were about 90 graves up there. A. B. Couch reported that he helped carry the casket of the last person buried in the Longfield Cemetary. This was about 1940. On April 28, 2001 Marion and Martha Couch, their son William Couch, Pat and Benjamin Couch, Ricky Couch, and Diana and Dawn Wells trod and transcribed the Longfield Cemetary. Marion Couch hand carved new stones for Elijah and Elizabeth Estep Couch. The stones were pulled up on a dolly and put into place. The new stones were then dedicated and prayer was held. The prayer was one said daily by Elizabeth Estep Couch's daughter-in-law, Sally Collins Estep. *************************************************************************** There were 59 unreadable or unmarked graves. Many stones were just below the ground surface and using care we gently loosened earth and set up stones. Marion and Benjamin worked very hard at restoring the stones and setting them upright.
