The father of our subject was a farmer, and Charles H. was reared on a farm, but at the age of eleven years removed to Vermont, where he received an academical education. On leaving the farm he taught school in Vermont, Massachusetts and New Jersey, and in 1841 came to Mason County, Ky., where he taught about five years; from there he went to Bracken County, where he was county surveyor four years, reading law in the meantime. He began the practice of law in Bracken County in 1851, and was county judge of that county from 1857 to 1861. He removed to Falmouth, Pendleton County, in 1865, where he has since been engaged in the practice of his profession, representing Pendleton County in the Legislature in 1868-69. Mr. Lee has been married three times: first in 1843, to Miss Caroline Dudley, a native of Vermont, and a daughter of Gen. Dudley, a hero of the war of 1812; she died in the spring of 1851, and in 1854 Mr. Lee married Martha Thomas, of Augusta, Ky., who departed this life in 1858. In 1859 Mr. Lee took for his wife Julia C. Ball, of Massachusetts, who died in the fall of 1885; leaving two children: George Dudley and Fannie S.
