Grizzle Feb 8th 1865. Book #P, Page 265 This Indenture made and entered into this 29th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two between William I. Griffing of the first part and John Grizzle of the second part, witnesseth that the said William I. Of the first part for and in consideration of eight hundred and forty dollars, Two hundred and twenty-two dollars and 60 cts. in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and six hundred and seventeen dollars and 40 cents secured to be paid by three promissory notes: the first note for two hundred and six dollars to be due and payable the first day of January 1863, the second note for two hundred and thirty one dollars and 20 cents due and payable the first day of January 1864, and the third note for one hundred and eighty 20 cents due and payable the first day of January 1865 (All of payments is further secured by a mortgage this day executed by the said Grizzle to the said Griffin upon the land hereby conveyed) hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Grizzle , party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever the following described piece of land situate lying and being in the County of Pendleton on the water of the East fork of Grassy Creek and bounded as follows (towit) Beginning at a red locust and sugartree in what is old Rushes Branch, XXX N18 degrees E86 poles to a dogwood and Ironwood near an ash, thence S23 degrees W18 poles to two Elms Foleys and Pat Actons corner, thence with Actons line N88 degrees E82 poles to the center between two white oaks his corner, thence N69 degrees E60 poles to a stone on the road Pat and Edward Acton corner, thence with Ed Acton line N33 1/2 N130 poles to w stake between the sugartrees and buckeye, thence with Taylor line, N79 degrees W23 poles to a sycamore Lummises corner, thence down the branch with the center thereof 75 poles to the beginning containing eighty-four and 10/100 acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining unto the said John Grizzle his heirs and assigns forever and the said Griffing hereby covenant to and with the said John Grizzle his heirs and assigns that he will warrant and defend the title to the said tract of land to the said John Grizzle against the claim or claims of all persons. In witness whereof the said Griffing hath hereunto set his hand and seal this day and date above written. Wm. I Griffing I, Thos E. Griffing to John Grizzle was this day produced to me in said county and acknowledged by the grantor to be his act and did whereupon said deed together with this certificate have been duly recorded in my office.
