All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ky/kyfiles.html ***************************************************************************** REVOLUTIONARY WAR PENSION APPLICATION - WILLIAM WHARTON State of Kentucky, County of Pendleton.On this 15th day of June 1818 before the County Court of Pendleton County, personally appeared William Wharton, aged 71 years and upwards, resident in Pendleton County and State aforesaid, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to attain the provision made by the Act of Congress, entitled an act for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War. That he, the said William Wharton, enlisted in the service of the United States in Pennsylvania under Captain Samuel Miller of the 18th Pennsylvania Regiment commanded by Col. McCoy (who soon afterward died and was succeeded by Col. Broadhead) of the continental line as a private for the term of three years, which time he served out and afterward was enlisted again during the war at Pittsburgh _____ by Captain Clarke of the same company who succeeded to the command of the company after Capt. Miller was killed by the Indians, at which time he served out to the end of the war and was discharged, but never applied to any officer of the army for a discharge, therefore has none, nor has he ever obtained any county land. Engaged mostly in duty on the western waters; that he does not remember the year he enlisted; he states it was early in the beginning of the war and amongst the first of the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment; he thinks about the 8th or 9th of June; that he is in reduced circumstances and needs the assistance of his country for support. I certify that, in conformity with the Law of the United States, of the 18th of March, 1818, William Wharton late a private in the Army of the Revolution, is inscribed on the Pension List, Roll of the Kentucky Agency, at the rate of $8 per month, to commence on the 15th day of June 1818.
