(See deposition by this Daniel McClain, Pendleton County, Kentucky, McCLAIN EXCHANGE, Vol. 2, #2, Summer, 1993 issue.) DEPOSITION, LEWIS COUNTY, MISSOURI DANIEL McCLAIN. Deposition, Jacob Robinson vs. Hiram N. Critchfield & c., P. Cir. C. Pkg 74, Lewis County, Missouri. Deposition March 2, 1840, at the house of Wm. Stowers in Lewis County, Missouri. DANIEL McCLAIN. I moved into Pendleton Co., Ky. in the year 1794 to where Joel ROBINSON Sr. and Matthew GLAVES Sr. lived. I lived there the whole time up to March 16 or 17, 1837, excepting 20 or 21 months when I lived in Woodford & Bourbon, and also about 9 months during the time I lived in Shelby Co., Ky. I was acquainted with old Mr. Joel ROBINSON and Matthew GLAVES (both now deceased), and with the boundaries of their respective tracts of land upon which they lived in Pend. Co. Matthew GLAVES came into the county in 1794 the last of March or first of April, and Mr. Joel ROBINSON came I think in the year 1795 .... Michael GLAVES went to the army in 1812. Michael GLAVES was in possession of that part of his father's, Matthew GLAVES land, up to ROBINSONs line..... I was present in the Spring of 1836 when Reuben McCARTY cut a block out of the beech tree standing at or near the corner, and counted the annulations or growths; the tree was marked M.G. stood below the tree McCARTY cut the blocks out. The tree marked M.G. was shewn to me by Wm. ROBINSON while he owned that land---- Matthew GLAVES died in the year 1800. He settled on the Moody Survey. I think I was shown that corner tree by Wm. ROBINSON in 1797 or 1798, and several times afterwards. he was shewing Patrick HANDLEY and Wm. YOUNG where to deaden the timber - he having employed them for that purpose. Wm. ROBINSON took possn of the land below the dividing line, before his fathers death. I have been engaged with surveyors frequently as a marker and carrier of chain. DANIEL McCLAINE Lewis Co. Mo. Sct.
