WALKER CUSHIONBERRY ARNOLD Hastening down the valley one by one With our faces toward the setting of the sun. In the last year the King Reaper has been unusually busy taking in his mowings in the family of W.C. Arnold. The following have passed away in the last year: on Nov. 29, 1934, a son, Tilberry Miles; on Mar. 18, Andy McNay, a brother of Mrs. Arnold, with whom he lived; on July 2, mrs. Beulah Bitto, a daughter; and on Oct 25, W. C. Arnold, the father. The intense grief and anxiety caused by the missing of W.C. Arnold ceased to some extent when his lifeless body was found in the woods some two miles from his home where he went to enjoy the sport of hunting. He left his home early Friday morning for the woods and had killed one sqirrel which lay by his gun and his body was found about ten feet from them where he had fallen. The verdict of the coroner's jury was to the effect that he died from apoxoley. His wife was in Detroit with one daughter, who was ill. On Sunday morning, a little babe was born in the home of another daughter in Covington. The darkest hour of a dark night is the hour before dawn of the coming day. There is never a cloud so dark that has not a silver lining. W. C. Arnold was a son of the late Tilberry and Elizabeth Arnold and was born in this county Feb. 22, 1864 and died Oct. 25, 1935. He was a child of a family of ten children, nine boys and one girl, of which only six brothers and one sister survive. William and John passed on. He was married twice, the first time to Mary Lee Ballinger who preceded him to her final resting place. To this union four children were born. Only one son, Frank survives in Covingon. He was united to Carrie McNay in Newport. To this union were born nine girls and two boys. Bessie Jones and Elijah Arnold of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Ernest Ward of Cincinnati, Mrs. Oblee Vickroy, Mrs. Clark Wolfe, Mrs. Thomas Rogers of Covington, Bigy, Zadah and Nora Arnold at home. He is survived by his last wife, nine children, eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Hallie Arnold, another daughter passed on five years ago. At one time, Mr. Arnold was engaged in the mercantile business at Goforth. It seems that he was not as aggressive as he might have been. His business life was like the tidal wave - up and down. He accepted life as it was, and could see the sun shining behind the darkest cloud. He bequested to the world nothing of wordly goods, yet he left us all the memory of a man to whom friendship meant much. No one had more friends than Walk Arnold. He was one of those big-hearted souls of a generous spirit. He was always able to smile under the most adverse circumstances. Time is winging us away. The present moment is all of life we can claim. Just a breath between life and death. Let us all be ready, for in such an hour as we think not we shall go hence the suddenness of death should solemnly impress the fact tht "while we are in life, we are in the mdist of death." His funeral was conducted at the Short Creek Baptist Church. Tuesdy at 11 o'clock by the Rev. Bernie Wolfe of Covington, and he was laid to rest in the family lot in the cemetery. The pall bearers were five brothers, E.B., J.E., T.M., E.J. and C.E. Arnold and Julius Colvin, a close friend. The flower bearers were B. F. Arnold and Mr. Miller. Those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George McNay of Menzies, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McNay of Newport, Bessie Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Arnold of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Wolfe, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Oblee Vickroy, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Arnold, Rev. and Mrs. Bernie Wolfe of Covington and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ward of Cincinnati.
