Another old resident of Johnson County (Missouri) is gone. One of the old pioneers, the sturdy men who have made this County one of the first in the state, are giving way for the younger ones. The last one to pass to the promised reward is Mr. George Baker. He was born in Pendleton County, Kentucky, April 10, 1817. When 17 years of age, he moved to Indiana. He was married to Miss Eliza Hollis, in 1838. He remained in Indiana till 1850 when, with his family he moved to Page County, Iowa, where he lived until the spring of 1868, when he came to this county, and settled 2 1/2 miles southwest of Kingsville. On Monday, the 17th of March he breathed his last. Death was caused by Dropsy. He leaves a wife, three daughters, and four sons all with families. He was buried in Bluff Spring Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Elder Randell, of this city. (Died 17 Mar. 1884, Kingsville, Johnson Co., MO) ---------------- Note: George was a son of William and Sarah (Castator) Baker of Pendleton Co., Kentucky. The family moved to Shelby Co., Indiana in 1831, then to Hawleyville, Page Co., Iowa in August 1850. They went to Kingsville, Johnson Co., Missouri in 1868. Eliza died 20 January 1894 and is buried beside George. George and Eliza's children were Elbra Ann, Frances M., Edward, Benjamin L., James H., Elizabeth, William Wiley, and Sarah Elmira. ****************************************************************************
