The May Family Cemetery is on a hill over-looking Johns Creek at the intersection of Ky. Hwy. 194 and 632, at Kimper, Kentucky. The land for this cemetery was set aside for a family cemetery by two brothers, William Anderson May and Dover May. We started at the left side, facing up-hill, and did each row from bottom to top. All graves are well marked with tombstones, except three that has small metal markers. Row No. 1 Born Died 1. Victor Layne 1905 1964 Victor was known to his family and friends as "Gooder Layne", he was the son of Delman and Rebecca (Justice) Layne. Victor married No. 2, Sarah J. Varney, on 8-23-1923 in Pike Co., Ky. 2. Sarah J. Layne 8-25-1907 12-25-1991 Sarah was the daughter of Andrew and Cosby ( ? ) Varney. 3. Newborn Son of W.J. & Dottie May Stillborn 1947 Metal marker. No more information. 4. William J. May 9-29-1924 9-29-1973 F. Co. 3 U.S. Navy WW II Kentucky William Jefferson was the son of George Washington and Sarah Dixie (Cantrell) May, he married Dottie George on 8-9-1947. 5. Clyde Rhodes 11-11-1933 3-3-1935 Clyde was the son of Ballard and Gladys (Chapman) Rhodes. 6. Fonnie Rutherford daughter of Rube and Matilda ( ? ) Rutherford, on 8-27-1903 in Pike Co., Ky. and 2nd. No. 11 Sarah Dixie Cantrell on 6-15-1908 in Pike Co., Ky. 11. Dixie May 12-5-1885 5-23-1963 Sarah Dixie Cantrell was born in Wise County, Virginia, the daughter of Robert L. and Mariah (Venters) Cantrell. 12. Gloria Ann May 9-14-1934 8-19-1935 Gloria was the daughter of James Aubrey and Florence (Blackburn) May. 13. Florence B. May 7-12-1910 8-4-1994 Flo, as she liked to be called, was the daughter of Otis and Louvinia (May) Blackburn. 14. James Aubrey May 8-24-1910 1-9-1954 Aub, as he was called by family and friends, was the son of George Washington and Sarah Dixie (Cantrell) May, married No. 13, Florence Blackburn in Pike County, Kentucky. 15. Charlie Ross May 11-22-1913 7-21-1978 Charlie was the son of George Washington and Sarah Dixie (Cantrell) May, married 1st., Lora Marie Ball, daughter of James Ballard and Anne Gladys (Weddington) Ball, and 2nd Viola (May) Thacker, daughter of Tilden and Rosella (Slone) May. 16. Frank Charles Layne 4-20-1895 2-17-1973 PVT. U.S. Army WW I Frank was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Lucinda (Cooper) Layne, married No. 17 Hazel May. 17. Minerva May Deskins 4-9-1909 6-14-1927 Minerva was the daughter of William Anderson and Ethel (Williams) May. She married Bob Deskins on 10-28-1923, the son of George and Sarah (Smith) Deskins. 19. Loretta M. Justice 1-17-1940 2-9-1940 Loretta was the daughter of Fonso and Ida (May) Justice. 20. Charles Justice 7-10-1943 5-21-1948 Charles was the son of Fonso and Ida (May) Justice. 21. Tabitha Kay Coleman 10-4-1971 10-4-1971 Tabitha was the daughter of Morgan and Sheila (Justice) Coleman. Row No. 4 22. Hi May 9-17-1921 10-17-1924 Hi was the son of William Anderson and Ethel (Williams) May. 24. William Anderson May 10-26-1880 2-14-1949 Anse, as everyone knew him, was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Lydia (Varney) May, he married No. 25, Ethel Williams, on 9-12-1907 in Pike County, Kentucky. William Anderson was a County Court Clerk for Pike County during the mid 1920's. 25. Ethel W. May 2-18-1887 1-23-1975 Picture on stone. Ethel was the daughter of James McKinley and Polly (Rutherford) Williams. 26. John S. Heath 9-12-1875 5-17-1959 Spanish American War Vet. U.S. Army WW II Walter was the son of Dover and Ella (Bevins) May, he married Pauline Franks in Nov. 1945. 30. Dover May 2-15-1891 8-15-1968 Picture on stone. Dover was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Lydia (Varney) May, he married No. 31, Ella Bevins 12-10-1910 in Pike County, Ky. 31. Ella Bevins May 9-17-1892 1-23-1933 Picture on stone. Ella was the daughter of Lewis and Pricy (Williamson) Bevins. 32. Fred Rush May 2-2-1920 6-6-1978 Picture on stone. Fred was the son of No.'s 30 and 31, Dover and Ella (Bevins) May, he married Betty King on 8-29-1947 in Pike County, Ky.
