Clifford Olen Coleman, "Smokey", age 94, of Fort Walton Beach, 
Florida, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2006. 

He was born in Regina, Kentucky, on April 5, 1912 the son of 
the late Emily Ratliff Coleman and William Grant Coleman. 

Smokey graduated from Pikeville High School where he was 
very active in sports playing on the baseball, basketball and 
football team. He received an athletic scholarship to Eastern 
Kentucky University. Smokey married his wife, Lois Sowards 
Coleman on December 31, 1932. Smokey, a federal mine inspector, 
owned and operated coal mines in Eastern Kentucky for many years. 
He was also member of the First United Methodist Church in Pikeville, 
Kentucky. 

Smokey was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Lois Sowards 
Coleman, his parents, Emily Ratliff Coleman and Grant Coleman, sisters, 
Buna Stapleton and Fostina Bartley, brother, Otto Coleman and his son-in-law, 
Walter J. Smith. 

He is survived by his daughter, Garlena C. Smith and granddaughters, 
Lauraline Congleton and Ashley Smith Herndon and her husband, Brad 
Herndon; sisters Evelyn Jane May and Madelyn Sykes and several nieces 
and nephews. 

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the wonderful 
caregivers who helped care for Smokey throughout his illness. 

A visitation with the family will be held at J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel on 
Sunday, November 12, 2006 from 3:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. The funeral services 
will be held on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 11:00a.m. at the J.W. Call 
Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Love officiating and burial will following 
in the Johnson Memorial Park.
